What to Know Before Visiting Dubai
Where the Future Meets the Desert
Dubai is easy to navigate once you understand the basics: the heat, local rules, transportation, dress expectations and how spread out the city is.
Dubai rewards travelers who plan around distance, weather and local rules. Use the Metro for many major corridors and licensed taxis or established ride-hailing services when a station is not convenient. Build extra travel time into your itinerary because attractions that look close on a map may be far apart in practice. Dress expectations vary by setting, so carry a light layer or cover-up for malls, religious sites and more conservative environments. Alcohol is regulated; only drink where legally permitted and never drink and drive. Be especially careful with medications and prohibited substances—check current official UAE guidance before traveling. During hotter months, schedule outdoor attractions for early morning or evening and use the middle of the day for indoor experiences.
